Simplify and automate the complete Ubuntu OS upgrade lifecycle for Stellar Cyber Data Processors.
Solution Overview
DP Ubuntu Offline Upgrade Automation
DP Ubuntu Offline Upgrade Automation is a deployment and upgrade utility designed to simplify Ubuntu OS migration for Stellar Cyber Data Processors.
It provides the infrastructure and automation required to move legacy DP systems from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 24.04 and then restore the DP application environment through the supported DP 6.5.0 Py3 bringup process.
The solution combines several traditionally separate operations into a single workflow:
Ubuntu 24.04 mirror server deployment
Local Ubuntu repository preparation
OS upgrade artifact preparation and validation
Automated Ubuntu LTS upgrades
Upgrade recovery and resume handling
DP 6.5.0 Py3 bringup
Master and worker node orchestration
Final DP and Kubernetes validation
Upgrading a legacy DP is more complex than a standard Ubuntu server upgrade.
The process requires multiple Ubuntu LTS transitions, repository management, repeated reboots, upgrade state tracking, DP-specific preparation, and a final application bringup on Ubuntu 24.04.
DP Ubuntu Offline Upgrade Automation reduces this operational complexity by providing a repeatable, validated workflow that minimizes manual configuration and operator error.
1. Build the Upgrade Server
Install Ubuntu 24.04 on the mirror server and configure the network.
↓
2. Prepare the Upgrade Repository
Download, verify, and publish the required Ubuntu OS and DP upgrade artifacts.
↓
3. Upgrade the Data Processor
Upgrade each DP through the required Ubuntu LTS releases:
16.04 → 18.04 → 20.04 → 22.04 → 24.04
↓
4. Run DP Bringup
Bring the DP software up to DP 6.5.0 Py3 on Ubuntu 24.04.
↓
5. Validate the System
Verify Kubernetes, DP services, cluster nodes, images, licensing, and final System Ready status.
